Supported Housing

What is Supported Housing?

Mind Monmouthshire manages 3 shared houses available to adults who are recovering from mental health issues and who need housing related support. The aims of supported housing are to enable residents to be confident in all aspects of maintaining a tenancy and to use community services relevant to their needs. A tenancy with Mind Monmouthshire is not for life. When residents are confident that they can maintain a tenancy  we support them to find and secure their own long term accommodation. Support staff are available to continue a lower level of support for a period of time once they have moved on.

Short term ‘High level’ Houses

Our two short-term ‘high support’ houses are situated within easy access of Abergavenny town centre. They provide a higher level of staff support than our other house. Residents accepted into this house should be confident in being ready to move into low support accommodation or their own tenancy within 2 years.

Longer Term houses
We have two other shared houses, one has two bedrooms and one has one bedroom, which provide a lower level of support than our high level support shared houses. Both these houses are in Abergavenny.  Applicants for these houses should be able to demonstrate lower housing related support needs. Staff are not ‘on duty’ in these houses, but provide individual support to residents Monday to Friday during office hours.  All residents should be willing to eventually move on into their own accommodation and staff will assist them with finding accommodation and provide on-going housing related support for a period of time after moving on.

Out of Hours Support
Support is offered between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday and a 24 hour, 7 day a week ‘On-Call’ service is available for all residents. The ‘On-Call’ person will be available to contact any resident who requires emergency support out of hours.
