My Generation: Mental Resilience and Wellbeing Course
Starting 28 May 2019 in Abergavenny
My Generation is a free programme to help those of us over 50 to improve our wellbeing, together.
We know that life has its challenges – for example leaving work, loneliness, money worries and bereavement – and these can all affect our wellbeing.
About the project
My Generation is a joint project between Mind Cymru and local Minds in Wales to help people over 50 to stay well by improving their resilience. It was developed in partnership between Mind Cymru, Age Cymru and local Minds. It’s funded by the Welsh Government and delivered by your local Mind.
what does it involve?
Over eight free weekly sessions, you can learn all about staying mentally well while enjoying activities and spending time with others. Activities vary, but could include things like crafts, talks and gentle exercise. You'll also have the chance to learn about other projects in your area that could help you, and find out how you can help others.
Who can take part?
Anyone over 50 living in Monmouthshire can take part, totally free of charge.
How has it helped people?
My Generation was piloted in four areas in Wales and found that at the end of the eight sessions:
- 79% of participants had increased wellbeing
- 63% felt more able to cope and solve problems
- 69% had increased their social connections
“Each week I would leave after the session feeling more positive and happier than I had felt before coming to the session that day. It was good to have the space to talk as a group. Sharing stories and experiences, listening to others, learning and supporting one another.”
“I really enjoyed the variety of wellbeing activities that the course offered, particularly the physical activities, these were fun and age suitable. It’s a good introduction to classes and projects that are running locally.”
“My experience with the project as a whole, it has helped me increase my confidence and has inspired me to look into setting up my own social group. The project introduces you to new activities, you learn new things, make new friends and gives you the opportunity to talk.”
